A Spring in My Step: Bornholm-ing by Bike

springinmystep2012:

Man o man, I’ve been way behind on blog posting. However, want to get the word out: the Bornholm Bike trip a couple weeks ago was lovely. To be on a bike, free to roam around an entire island, with hidden coves, little Danish towns, white-sand beaches, and ice cream stands was so invigorating….

Just had to put this up…it’s my architecture model with little bikes! (so Copenhagen)

Looking forward to May Day…

Ahh this Copenhagen drizzle has definitely dampened my spirits, not to mention my jacket, pants, and boots:( But I guess spring showers do bring may flowers? Seriously, the flowers are blooming wonderfully all over Copenhagen. A Dane recently told me about this big outdoor picnic on May 1st every year - he said I shouldn’t miss it! The celebration is in honor of Labor Day (May 1 in Denmark), but basically consists of Danes gathering outside in Faelledparken, a big park in Osterbro. I’m planning on going, enjoying the sun (hopefully) and the ambiance.

Trip to Tivoli

Hey there! Whew we just got back from our two-week travel break and it’s so nice to be back in Copenhagen…it feels a bit like coming home. The blooms on the trees are all out (despite the continued unusually cold chill) and….TIVOLI IS OPEN! That’s a sure sign the spring is here. Today my visiting host momma was performing on a main stage in the park as part of Tivoli’s Choir Day. There were tons of people just laying outside on the lawn, listening to the choirs and soaking up the sunshine. I must have passed about a dozen danes who were sitting along the park benches, hands folded in their laps, eyes closed, with the most content expressions on their faces…just basking in the sunny warmth (I certainly did). Tivoli, located in the very heart of Copenhagen, is such a fun place to be - I would recommend going on a sunny afternoon, and enjoying some of the outdoor cafes, maybe an ice cream, and the rides…which feel a little Willy Wonka-esque (in the best sort of way). The flowers are beautiful; my host mom said that there are precisely two gardeners who manicure the whole greenery of the place.

Up to the Scottish Highlands, down to Spanish Low(er)lands……

About to embark on our 2 week travel break…ah really excited for this! Planning to backpack through Scotland, with friend Kate from back home and Hillary (DIS sustainability blogger:) First to Edinburgh, and then traipsin through the Isle of Skye, where the views of the Cullin Mountains are supposed to be lovely. Then headed back down to Glasglow for a day, then more time in Edinburgh with my cousin, her roommate, and Kate:) Finally to Madrid, to see Kate/her Spanish home! Looking forward to enjoying such good time with friends, picnic-ing in sunny Scottish groves, making dinners together, seeing sheep dotting sloping Scottish hills, some Harry Potter pilgrimages, and eating….haggis? ehhhh….:)
